Capernwray, situated about 10 miles
beneath the Lake District in our
opinion offers the best above and
underwater facilities of any UK inland
dive site. The only thing it lacks
is depth for the more advanced training.
It has a maximum depth of around 22m but most of the “wrecks” lay
between 6m – 15m, which makes it ideal for the newly certified diver.
The “wrecks” include 6 boats, 2 helicopters and a Cessna plane.
There are also 2 huge cartoon horses, which make an ideal photo opportunity
and the mandatory gnome garden!
Down the gravel entry slipway and around the main entry points you will find
numerous trout (some very large!). You can purchase fish food from reception
to feed these tame creatures and they will even eat out of you hands.
Having so many underwater attractions, Capernwray is the ideal location to
take part in the PADI Underwater Navigation Course. Also having such clear
waters Capernwray makes a good location to conduct the PADI Underwater Photography
Course.
In Capernwrays new ‘state of the art’ dive centre you will find
full conference facilities, 1st class shower facilities and a modern restaurant
serving homemade food all day (drysuits allowed!). For the non divers and between
dives there is a large balcony area looking over the lake, ideal for a little
après dive!
Air fills are available up to 300bar and nitrox available to those certified
to use it.
We often take our newly certified divers here to build up there diving experience.
