Gildenburgh Water is a former brick pit
converted into a diver training lake situated
to the east of Peterborough. Being only
an hour away from our dive centre it makes
an ideal location for us to conduct our
PADI Open Water Courses.
The lake is well equipped with training
platforms at 1 metre, 5 metres, 7 metres,
8 metres, 15 metres and 21 metres situated
around the lake. The many and varied entry
/ exit points make it an ideal location
to run our PADI Rescue Diver Courses.
There are some great underwater attractions,
many of which are buoyed and connected
to each other with guidelines for easy
navigation. Among the attractions are a
barge, a coach, a jet plane, a cargo plane
and a 3 tonne truck. But by far the most
popular attraction under the surface at ‘Gildy’ is
the double decker bus! This lays upright
on the south slope of the lake at a depth
of 14 metres at its lowest point. Well
worth a ride.
As for fish life, you will find many roach
and perch swimming around the platforms
and attractions. There are some large pike
swimming around too.
In front of the lake you will find a large
grass area with seating and benches and
a couple of tents to kit up in.
There is a large canteen / bar area which
serves hot and cold snacks at peak times
and air fill facilities to the rear of
the building.
At present there is major building work
in progress with a new hotel complex being
erected. Once the building work is completed
Gildenburgh Water has the potential to
be one of the best inland sites in the
UK. |
