The National Diving Centre or The NDC
as it’s commonly known is a relatively
new diver training venue located in Chepstow,
which makes it convenient for both the
M4 and M5.
Formerly known as Dayhouse Quarry, the
NDC has a range of training depths from
3m down to 80m many of which are buoyed
off and have tapezes. Having the varied
range of depths makes it ideal for all
levels of diver training from The PADI
Open Water Course through to TDI Advanced
Trimix Courses.
Up in the car park area you will find a
well stocked shop, air fill facilities
including nitrox and trimix to 100 bar,
a cabin selling all the usual refreshments
and there are toilet facilities.
There
is a shuttle service which takes your dive
kit
down
to the pontoon
area, which runs every 20 minutes or so.
Under the water you will find many perch
and pike as well as the ‘mandatory’ sunken
wrecks with diving bells and boats etc
found at different depths. At the surface
you will find a 144 metre pontoon with
many entry and exit points to the water
so you will find plenty of space to kit
up. They even supply you with trolleys
to transport your kit (very useful after
a deep dive!).
From a safety point of view the NDC have
staff monitoring the lake constantly in
case any divers fall into difficulties.
They have a rescue boat ready in case of
emergencies and also have an on sight recompression
chamber.
All in all….. a great dive site for
diver training! |
