Dive Trip Details

About Scapa Flow
Scapa Flow is a sheltered open lagoon, encircled by the Orkney islands. It contains some of the most interesting wrecks in the world. For years it was the main anchorage of the British Royal Navy, and has many relics left of British naval history. In June 1919, the interned German navy scuttled most of its High Seas Fleet to prevent them from falling into Allied hands. Despite subsequent salvage, 8 of them remain and provide excellent wrecks for interested sports divers.

A typical day in Scapa Flow would start by leaving the pier at around 8am, the first dive being about one hour away giving you ample time for cereal, tea and toast etc. Being one of the first boats on site you would be entering the water at around 9am after which the Big Breakfast awaits you onboard, you really shouldn't need to eat for the rest of the day. We then dive a second wreck in the afternoon and are usually back in the harbour by 5pm. All the wrecks within the flow are usually shotted, and within an hours steam from Stromness.

Dive Boat
Our dive boat ‘Invincible’ is the largest of the Orkney dive boat fleet with an overall length 25 metres she is more than capable of offering pretty much all year round diving in Scapa Flow. Invincible operates as a liveaboard offering bunk accommodation including two shower rooms and a self catering kitchen. There is also a self serve bar area.

Travel
To travel up to Scapa Flow we shall be hiring mini buses, driving up to Scrabster (near John O’Groats) and taking the ferry to Stromess in the Orkney Islands. The rough cost of this will be around £220 per person plus fuel. If you wish to make your own travel arrangements then there is the option of flying, driving, or even taking the train. Please bear in mind that travel costs will work about the same whichever method you choose. All in all the trip will last 9 days including two days of travelling. If you are travelling up in the mini bus with us, we will be having overnight stays in Inverness on our journey going up and Newcastle on our journey home.
